For this Project I re-imagined A Series of Unfortunate Events, set for Theatre. I made the costume for Violet during the scene where Count Olaf traps her into a marriage by disguising it as a play named ‘The Magnificent Marriage’ and gives her a Wedding dress for his supposed ‘play. The idea behind this costume is that she is being forced to wear this old, dirty and used dress by Count Olaf, Her makeup has been done by his drama troupe and she is very upset and has a loss of hope. For the design of this costume, I collated inspiration from many different sources with a heavy focus on the late 19th Century. I then created mood boards to capture the essence of costume I was to design, following with an assortment of rough designs to decide on the silhouette. I then developed my drawings focusing on colour and texture until I came to my final design. I designed ten costumes which included, Violet, Klaus and Sunny at the beginning of the narrative, Count Olaf, Uncle Monty, Aunt Josephine, the drama troupe and Violet during the ‘Magnificent Marriage’ using the same process as previously mentioned. I then put them into a line up to show how they would appear all together.
