When learning how to pattern for a complex shape we learnt how pattern using a piece of fruit and masking tape.
What we did was cut small bits of masking tape out and cover the pear so that there are no gaps showing.
Then with a pen I would draw on where I wanted the pattern pieces to be and I chose to do it in sections.

I then cut each piece out using a craft knife carefully without cutting through the pear.
And carefully peel the pieces off the pear
I then cut darts through sections that were curving to turn them into flats.
Using a piece of paper underneath I just traced the pattern onto it and cut them out

I then connected all these pieces using sellotape to re create the pear.
Overall I found this experience very interesting and helped me to realise how I can use this techniques for lots of different things in eluding props and parts for costumes.
