Zero Du Conduit is a French film which tells a tale of a group of young boys who live at a boarding school in France are unhappy with the reprehensive nature of the school and the way that their teachers would treat them design a plot to stand in the way of an event that is being taken place at the school to get revenge and bring light on how corrupt the their educational system was.
This film was directed by a French director Jean Vigo in 1933 and was heavily based off his experience as a child in the French educational system. The film had a very mixed reception and caused a lot of controversy amongst the society of the time as it went against the governments educational constructs and was banned from watching in France until November 1945.
I think that the way Vigo reflects his own experiences and feelings on the relationship between students and teachers within this film is very successful and interesting and gives audiences a real insight on how students were being treated by their teachers and head teachers during time especially in boarding schools. I enjoyed the surrealistic nature to the film and how these ideas were creatively curated to communicate these ideas. The comedic nature of the film was an aspect which I thought worked well too as it took the direction of the film in a more light hearted way whilst still keeping to the deeper message it was getting across. If I was to change anything it would be the ending as I found it fished very abruptly however overall I enjoyed this watch.
