How to make a hat using different materials and techniques
In our Millenary making Workshop we learnt about some of the different techniques that are used to make hats for Theatre,Tv and everyday use. We looked at embellishments and materials that are used in the Hat making Business.
Some of the common materials that we see used within Millenary are:
-Buckram which is due to stiffness and therefore creates a structured hat
-Felt, this is a very soft and easy to stitch into therefore being very comftable
-Straw, straw can weaved which means that it can be made into different types shapes, sizes and tightnesses
-Sinamy, needs to be stiffened before it can be used to block hats as it comes as a flat woven sheet.
-Silk, which gives the hats a shiny and professional touch.
